You can hike up an volcano in Iceland in Vestmannaeyjar that is called Eldfell. The volcano erupted in 1973. There are even still warm spots on the volcano. It takes you about 1,5 hours from the harbor to walk up to the volcano and hike it and come down again.
We truly recommend you to hike up to Eldfell volcano. Children as well as adults can hike up to the mountain. There is lovely view over the island from the mountain. You can also see over to the mainland and even the famous volcano and glacier Eyjafjallajökull. Eyjafjallajökull erupted in the year 2010 and interrupted flight-schedules all over Europe and America.
After hiking up the volcano in Iceland, Vestmannayejar, or prior to the hike we recommend you to visit the museum Eldheimar that is a volcano museum.
When you have visited the volcano you have truly found the heart of Vestmannaeyjar. When taken a round trip with our passenger boat you will also see the new lava from sea. As well as during our two hour sailing with a ribboat. It is amazing to see how much the island has changed after the volcanic eruption. This you can really see from sea.
